Play Misty for Me

When I saw the theme for ESN this week was "Misty" the first thing that came to mind was "Play Misty for Me".  Do you remember that horror movie?  Starred and directed by Clint Eastwood back in 1971.  He was dreamy and had all his hair!  It also starred Jessica Walter (as the psycho stalker) and Donna Mills as Clint's girlfriend, who almost ended up a casualty when psycho Jessica comes a'callin with a butcher knife.  Clint's maid also lived, but man, was she ever brutally sliced.  Good movie for the time I thought, but I haven't seen it since then, so my opinion would perhaps change, not that I've grown up or matured much, but I still love Clint!  I don't have anything in my store that has anything to do with "misty", but I have known many people (myself included) that have had cats, and in particular, Siamese Cats named "Misty".  Maybe it's their coloring, I don't know.  But I do have a lovely set of plates, and I've decided the cats' name on them is Misty, and she's even toying with the piano on one plate perhaps trying to conjure up that Erroll Garner classic "Misty".  I don't know the song and don't even know if a piano is involved but my imagination went rampant!

Le Petit Marche has this lovely Franklin Mint Siamese Cats - Collectible 4 Plate Set available, so stop on by and have a look at them and the other collectibles I have!

It's Spring, unpack the Shorts!

I've been busy at my new job, you've all experienced "the new job" once in your life at least, I'm sure.  You're exhausted by the end of the day learning all the new stuff and meeting all the new people and trying to remember everything.  I could barely make dinner most of the time after I got home.  I just wanted a few glasses of wine, and veg out in front of the television. But Monday I start my 4th week at work, and I'm getting more comfortable. So with a renewed sense of commitment and camaraderie I am back!  This week's  ESN theme is simply "shorts".  Normally this would not be so hard, but not a single person on ESN has any shorts.  What's with frogs and shorts?  Is there a shortage (is that an almost pun??) of them?  There's tons of shirts, scarves, shawls, sarongs, dresses and other clothing type stuff.  My supplier of Barbie doll clothes didn't send me any shorts, and we all know Barbie's got killer legs, she looks great in shorts! Le Petit Marche however, has a great assortment of sandals that would go great with shorts.  Have a look at these:

Kim Rogers Gold Color Flat Sandals - Size 8 1/2 - 9

impo Black Sandal - Size 8 1/2 M

And if you want to be more casual, here's a cool pair of Converse One Star Red Canvas Shoes great for just about any occasion where shorts are involved.

The closest thing I found to shorts on ESN was absolutely nothing!  But it is spring, and summer is just around the corner so that means lots of birds and butterflies and I found this really cool baseball cap at Embroidery Fashions Boutique that says summer and is a great way to keep the sun off your face while out in your garden, shopping or just taking a walk about the neighborhood.  She has several colors, check them out.

Mother's Day Tomorrow, May 13th

Tomorrow is Mother's Day (and my last post of the ESN theme of the week) in a lot of countries all over the world.  How will you celebrate your mother?  My mother lives in a different state so I sent her a lovely bouquet of spring flowers in many different colors in a beautiful but simple butter colored pitcher that she can continue to use and think of me every time she uses it to water her houseplants or serve some summer iced tea or whatever in it.  Of course I will telephone her tomorrow paying mind to the time difference.  My brother will have her over to his house for a lovely brunch and a bottle (maybe 2!) of her favorite wine and perhaps flowers and a gift or two.  Gosh how I wish I could be there.  But like many people, school, then work, then life, can sometimes take us far away from family.  So it's good to stay in touch with loved ones as much as possible if you live far away.  It's too late for internet shopping to get something delivered for tomorrow but think about next year already because CarolinaBlueLady has a lovely turquoise and pearl necklace from Avon I'm sure your mom would love.  This is just lovely, dainty and screams spring!   Happy Mother's Day moms of the World!

Mother's Day

I was doing a little research to see what countries celebrate Mother's Day since that is our ESN theme this week. Turns out about 70 countries celebrate Mother's Day on the same second Sunday in May, which is this Sunday, May 13th.  Other countries observe this celebration on other days throughout the year.  Some sources say  Mother's Day celebrations can be traced back to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.  Another source cites that Isis, Mother of the Pharaohs was honored at annual festivals.  Well, let Greece and Egypt duke it out to see who gets the honor.  But it seems everyone is in agreement that Mother's were special and worth honoring, even centuries ago!  Think about it, mom, mum, mummy, mommy, mama and whatever else these lovely women are called by their offspring ...

Caregiver, cook, dishwasher, house cleaner, nurse, doctor, animal handler (all the pets that come and go through the years!), confidant, truth seeker (I heard a million times "I didn't do it", no matter what or where it was and the kid was the only one in the room), negotiator, cop (ok, disciplinarian) (I also heard a million times "I hate you!").  Wow, I'm depressed now at how hard this job is!

If you're looking for something nice to give to mom to say "Thanks for being there, always.... and I love you"  Le Petit Marche has a delightful little Heart Shaped Glass Crystal Dish With Lid that would be a great heartfelt gift.  It's dainty, so fill it with potpourri, dried roses, M&M's (get the peanut kind, it's my favorite sweet/salty treat! :) or whatever you know your mom loves!

Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers around the world!

How Does YOUR Garden Grow?

This is my last entry for the ESN How does your garden grow theme.  And how does your garden grow?  And are you a gardener?  And what kind?  As I said in my last entry, I'm a container gardener type as I have no property.   Do you have a plot, acreage, farm?  Do you have  green thumb?  Do you want to be an avid gardener and be the green thumb you always wanted to be?  Even if you are a world class gardener and even if you're not we can all use a little help now and again.  And I found a terrific book at Eccentric Thrifter that is chock full of illustrations and 1001 hints and tips!  Who knew gardening would need 1001 hints and tips?  It's a Reader's Digest book so you know it has to be good.  Eccentric Thrifter has a lot of gardening books, you should check them out.  You just might find that "gotta have it" book!   Happy Gardening everyone!

How and What Does Your Garden Grow?

I tried doing container gardening a few years ago since all I have is a balcony (I live on the 2nd floor). It was quite fun and I had tomatoes, 3 varieties of peppers, strawberries, and the herbs; rosemary, basil, mint and parsley.  And lots of flowers as usual. It was some work and working full time I didn't devote as much time, and although it thrived and I managed to keep those nasty huge green tomato worms at bay I decided last year I'd just do the herbs and flowers.  Now this year, I'm even a year lazier than last, so it will be just flowers.  I hung a few prettily painted and decorative birdfeeders and the finches and sparrows come and visit, but they toss the seeds all over the place. Dirty but delightful little critters! :)

So the ESN blog theme this week is "How does your Garden Grow".  But I have nothing in my store that has to do with gardening, but it got me to thinking, I bet the Boutenko family gardens.  And I have a book about their journey to eating raw foods: Raw Family - A True Story of Awakening.
The front of the book has photos of all kinds of veggies, fruits and even flowers, so all bases covered here!  You can find this book at Le Petit Marche
